The supply chain of recyclables is long, disorganised and informal and the number of transactions can be overwhelming. Waste collectors do not have the capacity to expand their operations and adapt to the fluctuating market conditions and recyclers prefer efficient partners that can provide them with a minimum supply quantity.
Waste4Change has developed waste management solutions that cover the full life cycle of waste in Indonesia, collecting and recycling waste from companies and households. Waste4Change also supports brands to collect their waste packaging by type. It has supported waste collection communities by providing working capital, capacity building and a digital traceability system to monitor the transaction of plastic collected. The aim is to improve data traceability, the quantity of supply and the quality of plastic waste.
TRANSFORM funding has supported Waste4Change across 650 waste collection communities in the Greater Jakarta, West Java, East Java and Bali areas with 2,200 tonnes of plastic waste collected in 12 months. TRANSFORM’s support helped with the acquisition of waste collection partners, scaling up their digital traceability system and increasing the collection of plastic waste. The digital system resulted in faster payment to suppliers and record documentation needed for traceability. This traceability is useful for brands in the Extended Producer Responsibility / Plastic Credit programme. TRANSFORM is providing additional funding and support for further expansion and digital traceability.
