Every day, 1,600 people die in India due to water-borne and water related diseases.
Spring Health provides affordable, safe drinking water to underserved households in Eastern India, using innovative purifying methods. Its strong rural distribution network via incentive-based, profit-sharing local entrepreneurs ensures a reliable water supply at kirana shops - small village kiosks - as well as through home delivery. Operating in the state of Odisha, its partnership with micro enterprises increases livelihood opportunities and ensures clean water reaches the doors of families living in deep rural pockets.
TRANSFORM supported Spring Health with the introduction of new products to strengthen the customer base, diversify the income stream and increase awareness. This included the provision of hand sanitisers and basic hygiene products, such as disinfectants, at a very low cost. The initiative also helped to create water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes in schools and raise awareness about the importance of safe drinking water.
TRANSFORM provided further funding and support during the pandemic. Spring Health knew that hand sanitiser and disinfectant would be crucial in helping rural communities tackle the spread of COVID-19. It sought to address the lack of access to these products, as well as continue to provide safe drinking water. With TRANSFORM’s support Spring Health organised programmes in schools, promoting good hygiene and handwashing practices among students along with the provision of disinfectant. The project delivered disinfectant to 60,000 people every day and reached over 10,000 students through its schools programme.
